Choose Friends and Family this Holiday

Everybody needs somebody! That sentiment is evident as the holidays approach. Sure people complain about the holiday rush, but you may experience sadness or depression if you have idle time. Recognize that the holiday hurry is traditional and create your own activities.
Don’t downplay the importance of family and friends. Sadness, depression, fatigue or loneliness may threaten to ruin your holiday unless you plan a joyous season. Change your focus from “what can I get” to “what can I give.” By setting more realistic goals, you’ll develop your own inner peace.
More individuals and families are in need this year. Locate ways that you can give. If you have funds to donate, the Salvation Army, Toys for Tots, an angel tree or any number of charities need them.
Even if funds are low, you have a valuable contribution, your time! Sign up to serve at the community Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner. Plan to shop, wrap and pack for Toys for Tots or be a bell ringer.
Have a ‘Random Acts of Kindness’ Christmas. Set a goal for yourself and your friends and family to perform as many kind acts as you can this year. On the holiday itself, plan something special. You may opt to spend the day with a good book or movie or you may head to a local nursing home. Kindness is a way of life for you. Choose your family and friends this year, whether your contact is for a moment, an hour or a lifetime. Reach out in joy and caring.
